Oran's World - Press Release

Welcome to ORAN’S WORLD … the latest instalment of Glyn Bailey’s decades long musical adventure. The ten songs featured on this new album bear all the classic hallmarks of his songwriting. Melodic compositions and intelligently crafted lyrics, delivered in that distinctive vocal style.

The opening title track Oran’s World establishes a mood of wonder and discovery as we travel to the exotic destinations of his imagination, paving the way for a journey through the rest of the album. Birdsong is a sweet and joyous ode to nature, whilst The Guru gently mocks the ongoing battle between the sacred and an increasingly mechanical world. The poignant ballad Autograph resonates with the precious values of familiarity and belonging, and in Honeypot social concerns are highlighted, reminding us of our need to contribute; that we are all in this together.

Tracks such as the 1960’s TV theme inspired This Man, and the ghostly gothic horror of Songs of the Sea highlight the author’s ability to craft abstract, yet still relatable narratives. The Last Laugh reflects on the perils of cancel culture, and there's a triumphant homage to a musical hero in Dinner with Bowie, written after news reports on the day of the star’s passing, which summons his presence for a final celebratory send off. The song’s arrangement showcases an ability to blend traditional instrumentation with modern production sensibilities, using chiaroscuro to create a mood that feels both timeless and contemporary.

A collaborative spirit is evident throughout ORAN’S WORLD. The audio sorcery of Dave Archer (Last Riff Studio) balances the emotional musical quality with a warm polished sound. The album is peppered with contributions from various musical friends, adding a depth and richness to the overall sound, particularly evident on tracks like Presence of Love which features the intricate piano work of James Coupe. There are lush, bel canto harmonies from Elizabeth Archer, beautifully enhancing the euphonic experience, and several musical contributions from Philip Maxwell Senior whose sympathetic arrangements allow each track to shine, engaging listeners from start to finish.

ORAN’S WORLD is available both as a limited-edition vinyl LP and a digital download from Glyn's website and all the usual online streaming sites.

Brief Biography

Glyn Bailey is a singer/songwriter, originally from the North West of England, currently living in Spain.

From a young age Glyn acquired a love for storytelling, a catchy melody, and a well-crafted lyric. His earliest musical memory was hearing Sinatra discs being played on the family stereogram. Later on it was Beatles, Bolan, and Bowie that provided the soundtrack for his formative period of the 1970's.

A childhood birthday gift of a 'reel to reel' tape recorder instilled a lifelong enjoyment of the creative recording process. Today he writes and records music in his home studio, getting by with occasional help from his musical friends.

Glyn's songs endeavour to explore life's contradictions and complexities. The lyrics often reflect a dark cynicism, but always relieved by a playful sense of humour. Either solo, or fronting combos, Glyn has released seven albums and various singles over the years, his most recent offering being ORAN'S WORLD (2025).

The entirety of Glyn’s recorded output is available to download free of charge from his website. There's also the option to purchase copies of the ORAN’S WORLD vinyl LP, plus various CD releases from 2005's Toys from Balsa through to Testament in 2022.

Videos have been created to illustrate some of the songs, which can also be found via a link to the Youtube page.

Mood music is good music and with Testament, Glyn Bailey undoubtedly knows how to set the tone. A collection of songs crooned in a low-end lull that soothes the soul whilst it breaks your heart. Experience it when the mood and setting are exactly as they should be and this album will take you somewhere warm and fuzzy, yet tinged with a sadness that everyday life all too often provides.”
